The strength of the Dutch deep-tech ecosystem and its international recognition
CoolSem Technologies participated in the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit, one of Europe's leading gatherings for deep-tech innovators, investors, corporates, and policymakers.
Representing CoolSem Technologies, André van Geelen and Pieter Heersink joined a packed agenda of meetings with strategic partners, venture capital firms, technology leaders, and members of the broader Dutch high-tech ecosystem.
While events often focus on individual companies and technologies, one of the strongest impressions from Hello Tomorrow was something much larger: the strength of the Dutch deep-tech ecosystem and the growing international recognition it is receiving.
Deep Tech Is a Team Sport
Building a deep-tech company is fundamentally different from building a software startup. Development cycles are longer, technical risks are higher, capital requirements are greater, and success depends on collaboration across a complex network of universities, research institutes, suppliers, manufacturing partners, customers, and investors.
No single company can build this ecosystem alone.
What makes the Netherlands unique is the density of expertise concentrated within a relatively small geographic area. the country brings together world-class expertise in semiconductors, photonics, advanced manufacturing, equipment, materials, and high-tech systems. That density matters. It helps promising technologies move from scientific discovery toward industrial application faster than they could in isolation.
At Hello Tomorrow, it became clear that international stakeholders increasingly recognize the Netherlands as one of Europe's leading deep-tech hubs.
The Value of a Strong National Presence
One of the highlights of the event was the Discover Dutch DeepTech pavilion, organized by Techleap, RVO & TNO.
Rather than individual companies operating in isolation, the pavilion showcased Dutch innovation as a collective strength. Startups, scale-ups, investors, and ecosystem partners were able to meet international visitors under a common banner, creating visibility that would be difficult for individual companies to achieve on their own.
For young technology companies, this matters enormously.
International investors often evaluate not only the company itself, but also the ecosystem surrounding it. They look at the availability of talent, manufacturing capabilities, strategic partners, and follow-on funding opportunities. A strong ecosystem reduces risk and increases confidence.
By presenting a unified Dutch deep-tech story, initiatives such as Techleap help companies gain access to conversations that might otherwise take years to establish.
Connecting Science, Industry and Capital
The conversations at Hello Tomorrow covered a broad spectrum of topics, from semiconductor innovation and AI infrastructure to manufacturing scalability and commercialization challenges.
For CoolSem, these discussions are highly relevant. As semiconductor devices continue to increase in power density, thermal management is becoming a critical challenge across photonics, RF systems, opto-electronics and AI infrastructure.
Solving these challenges requires more than brilliant technological innovation. It requires collaboration across the entire value chain.
Events like Hello Tomorrow bring together precisely the stakeholders needed to accelerate that process and initiate interactions that create opportunities that cannot be replicated through emails or virtual meetings. Trust, alignment, and long-term partnerships are frequently built through face-to-face conversations.
Learning From Industry Leaders
Another benefit of participating in ecosystem events is the opportunity to exchange perspectives with other experienced leaders who have helped shape the European technology landscape.
At Hello Tomorrow, André and Pieter had the opportunity to meet with industry figures including Peter Wennink and Constantijn van Oranje-Nassau.
These conversations are valuable not only because of the individuals involved, but because they provide insight into the broader direction of European innovation, industrial policy, technology scaling, and global competitiveness.
For emerging companies, access to this collective experience can be as valuable as access to capital.
Why Ecosystem Building Matters
The global race for leadership in semiconductors, photonics, AI infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing is intensifying. Regions that succeed will not necessarily be those with the most startups or the largest funding rounds. They will be the regions that build the strongest innovation ecosystems: environments where science, entrepreneurship, capital, manufacturing, and policy reinforce one another.
The Netherlands has established a strong position in this regard. From semiconductor equipment and integrated photonics to advanced packaging and materials innovation, Dutch organizations continue to play influential roles in global technology development.
Initiatives such as Techleap, together with regional clusters, research institutions, and industry organizations, help ensure that promising technologies can move beyond the laboratory and into commercial reality.
At CoolSem Technologies, we are fortunate to be part of a strong and supportive innovation ecosystem. We are grateful for the support, expertise, and collaboration provided by organizations such as PhotonDelta, PhotonicsNL, Eindhoven University of Technology, Radboud University, and the broader Brainport ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
For CoolSem Technologies, Hello Tomorrow was much more than a networking event. It was an opportunity to strengthen relationships, gain market insights, and contribute to the broader conversation about the future of deep technology in Europe.
Perhaps most importantly, it served as a reminder that innovation does not happen in isolation. The success of individual companies is closely linked to the strength of the ecosystem around them. We are proud to be part of that ecosystem and look forward to contributing to its continued growth.
